Jeston Anderson and Robbie Robinson Win ABT Mobile Delta
Angler of the Year Leaders Dees and Walley Finish Tied for Second
Satsuma, Ala. – May 30, 2015 – In an area that has seen a significant volume of water rushing through it. The Mobile Tensaw River Delta waterway has become slightly more difficult to pattern over the recent weeks. While the Alabama Bass Trail features some of the best team anglers in the South, having some understanding of this unique fishery was sure to be an asset.
The team of Jeston Anderson and Robbie Robinson; locals to the waterway, proved that having an understanding of what was happening with the water flow and the tidal system was beneficial on this fourth stop on the ABT Southern Division. Anderson and Robinson came to the scales at Live Oak Landing in Stockton, Ala. midway through the weigh-in and placed a 14.70-pound limit on the scales to take the lead. Their limit held up to the end, even sustaining a challenge from division Angler of the Year Leaders Keith Dees and Tommy Walley, and Coby Carden and Chris Rutledge – who tied for second place – in the process.
“This is my first big win, and it really means a lot to do so on our hoe water and to beat these guys that we compete against down here adds to it,” said Anderson. “I thought that we had blown it today because we lost a few key fish, and I was sure that it cost us; but it worked out and I’m humbled an honored.”
Robinson, who has competed and won on large stages himself in the past, said it was all about being able to read the water. “We caught them on a swimbait and a white swim jig, as well as a black and blue Flippin’ jig,” said Robinson. “But really, it was about being able to read the water levels and know where we needed to present to lure in order to get the right bites; I’m really glad it worked out.
Anderson and Robinson were the ABT 2014 Southern Division Anglers of the Year, but this is their first win on the tour. They earned $10,000 for their win as well as the Alabama Bass Trail logo bonus for being the highest finishing team with an ABT logo on their clothing.
Dees and Walley, who came into the event in the lead for the 2015 ABT Southern Division had said that they were going to fish to win, but they needed to avoid a crash as well. “We took a huge risk last year and only weighed three fish here on our home water,” they said. “We still too a little bit of a gamble here, but it was more of a cautious gamble and we fell a little short. But, we extended our points lead going into the final event, so we feel pretty good about it.”
The pair used custom painted Spittin’ Image topwater baits and spinnerbaits to produce their weight, and together pocketed $4,500 for their win as they finished tied with Carden and Rutledge, who also received $4500 for their day on the water.
Tullis Lanier and Joey Davidson continued their strong season by finishing fourth with 13.54 pounds; earning $3,000 and Foster Bradley and Britt Lemley weighed 13.15 pounds to finish fifth and pocket $2,000.
The Diet Mountain Dew Big Bass of the tournament went to 165h place team of Greg Griggers and Barry Landrum. Their 5.57-pound largemouth bass anchored their 10.32-pound limit earning them $500 for their paycheck finish as well as an additional $500 for the Diet Mountain Dew Big Bass.
