Alabama Bass Trail Announces Date and Location for 2019 ABT Open
Decatur, Ala. (December 19, 2018) – The Alabama Bass Trail (ABT) is pleased to announce the date and location for the 2019 ABT Open. Returning for the second year, the team-style tournament is set for Nov. 9, 2019, on Lay Lake at Beeswax Landing.
Hosted by the Shelby County Commission, the one-day tournament allows teams to compete in a single tournament instead of the tournament series, which has a five-weekend commitment. It has a $15,000 guaranteed first place prize and a total cash payout of over $70,000. The maximum number of boats is 250 and the entry fee is $300 per team. Registration opens February 1, 2019.
“Shelby County is pleased that our County and Beeswax Creek Park will be the site of another top regional fishing tournament. We realize the importance the Alabama Bass Trail Tournament Series brings to our area economically, and the County has made concerted efforts to improve the offerings at Beeswax with new restrooms and expanded parking facilities to accommodate larger tournaments as well as an additional playground and walking trail to the existing pavilions, playground and fishing piers located in the park for accompanying friends and families. Shelby County is pleased to welcome all the anglers for the Alabama Bass Trail Open and look forward to hosting other similar tournaments in the future,” said Shelby County Manager Alex Dudchock.
The ABT Open made its debut on Sept. 8 of this year on Smith Lake attracting 164 teams from across the southeastern United States. The inaugural tournament produced an economic impact of over $235,000 for the city of Jasper and Walker County. “We are excited to be able to bring another ABT Open to anglers in the Southeast. Lay Lake has been a great host to several Alabama Bass Trail events and we are looking forward to being back in Shelby County for the second ABT Open,” said ABT Program Director Kay Donaldson.
ABT Open sponsors include Phoenix Bass Boats, Bill Penney Toyota, America’s First Federal Credit Union, Academy Sports and Outdoors, Garmin, Jack’s, TH Marine, Sweet Home Alabama, Wedowee Marine, Fish Neely Henry, Buffalo Rock, Alabama Power Company, Yeti, Lew’s Fishing, AFTCO, Trapper Tackle, Power-Pole and Big Bite Baits.
